The Shadow, in many ways the original superhero and once a seemingly indestructible fixture of American pop-culture, seems all but forgotten in this day and age.

But take heart, the DVD, “The Shadow Knows” is available at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/The-Shadow-Knows/dp/B0080JTIX8

If you are fan of this famous character; this is the DVD for you.

So what else is going on in the club?

President Charlotte had a delightful Rotary duty last week:  presenting some recognitions for all the things we do.

Here are a few photos from the day:

Ralph Treloar accepting Ngaire’s Paul Harris memorial award on Saturday 13th June at David and Sue Rush’s home in Sorrento.

David Rush accepting the certificate of appreciation from the Philippine Toilet Block Project.

Sue Rush accepting her Certificate of Appreciation for her contribution to the Mental Health Awareness Hat Day Lunch on 8th October, 2019.

(Well done, all those receiving a well-deserved recognition, and thanks to photographer Peter England)

The Shadow was delighted to see David Pisterman in full footy regalia at today’s meeting, and the pre-meeting conversation once again being focussed on the famous game. Perhaps the end of the Corona Virus lockdown is in sight.

But we seem to have moved from an infectious disease lockdown into a new Cultural Revolution.  A “Great Awokening” of race dividers, free-speech haters, history erasers, and gender-fluidity pushers.

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”  - George Orwell, “1984”

A statue of Robert The Bruce, which was defaced by Black Lives Matter graffiti, is pictured at the Battle Of Bannockburn Visitor Centre, near Stirling in Scotland on June 12, 2020.

It is bad enough that statues of Winston Churchill and Captain James Cook have been defaced by Black Lives Matter graffiti, but now King Robert the Bruce !

The Shadow wonders  how the BBC might write about King Robert the Bruce’s place in Scottish history, and some of his racist crimes against the English.

"At Loudon Hill he attacked and killed some English tourists travelling too or from the Ayrshire coast.

“At Bannockburn in 1314 he killed thousands of English visitors who were on their way to visit friends staying at Stirling castle. He also kidnapped and ransomed some of the peaceful tourists he had captured.

“He evicted dozens of English visitors from their Scottish holiday homes. It took about 500 years for the Scottish tourist industry to recover."

The Shadow regrets that his proposal to erect a statue of Hawthorn Rotary’s Past District-Governors  has had to be put on “hold”.
