The Shadow is having a week off to recover from the weekend. He couldn't go to the footy because of the Corona Virus social distancing laws, so he went to a demo instead. He knew he would be safe at the demo: he has the Covid19 App on his phone.

His nephew Clarrie (the office-boy) is filling in for him, just this once.

We wonder if anyone will note the difference . . . .

Have a look at the coming events listed in this bulletin: Morning Tea with DG Grant Hocking on Saturday June 13th, for instance. Not real tea, but Zoom tea. Yes, the morning tea event will be on Zoom: you must be getting used to Zoom meetings by now.  Gerri Carr will be speaking on Crowdfunding, and you will have an opportunity to ask your usual probing questions.

(And wasn’t it nice to see Grant and Melissa pay a low-key visit to our club on Tuesday?)

RI President Mark Maloney will be visiting us on Saturday 20th June, albeit on Zoom.

Come and join us for this great opportunity to hear from  RI President Mark, who will  reflect on his year as RI President and give his view on the shape and future of Rotary in the current COVID-19 period and beyond. This will be followed by a short Q&A session.

Questions must be sent through to DG  Grant Hocking by Thursday 18th June.

The Rotary International Virtual Convention 20-26th June: this also will be an on-line event this year.

And now the BIG ONE:  Rotary Hawthorn Changeover on 30th June.  Book on Trybooking, dress up and have those nibbles and drinkies ready for a fun evening!

President-Elsct Tilak Dissanayake is alarmed at the lack of response so far.  That’s Rotary, Tilak. We all know they’re going to come, but will leave off registering until the day before.

Have a look at all those on-line functions under “Events”

Did you catch President-Elect Tilak in the Rotary segment on 94.1 FM WBC radio last Friday?

Tilak was interviewed by Ian Salek of Glenferrie Rotary, with comments on Tilak’s  experience as a demonstrator in anatomy, rural doctor training in NSW and in mental health, before coming to Melbourne. He then was involved as a lecturer at Monash University, a seat on the Medical Board of Victoria, and a general practice in Camberwell - the only general practice with an underground swimming pool!

Tillak described how he had become involved in fundraising for tsunami relief in Sri Lanka with the Lions in NSW, and has continued his community involvement by joining Rotary after coming to Melbourne.

Ian Salek finalised the interview by eliciting Tilak’s aims for his upcoming year as a Rotary President.

It looks like being a bonzer year, Tilak!

The Shadow was delighted to see PDG Bernie Walshe at the last Zoom meeting. Bernie has apparently robbed the piggy-bank and bought himself a new computer, just so he can attend Rotary via Zoom.

Well done Bernie: you’ll be twittering and tweeting with the best of us in no time!

But there are no Sergeant’s Sessions in the current Zoom meetings: The Shadow misses those niggling fines that irk us so much. And there are so many fineable opportunities: members with dogs, inappropriate apparel for a start.

Can we have The Sarge back, please?
