The Swinburne Employment Forum at the Croydon campus was a roaring success with 140 students and 20 teachers, employers, the three Swinburne - Rotary mentors and three previous student mentees.

I was given the opportunity to give the concluding presentation of plenary sessions. It must have gone down fairly well as we had the best turn up of students during follow on break-out sessions.

Two sessions had been allocated to our "Meet a Mentor" panel discussions during which we three mentors and the three previous students/mentees interchanged perspectives on "How to get your Dream Job". You may spot Vincent Chen (four from the left)

The Employment Forum concluded with a sausage sizzle where the 150 students and teachers were able to mingle, chat and eat the 200 sausages. We have already received excellent feedback and appreciation for our involvement and contribution with expressed desire to extend the partnership. I think we may now become rather busy and I anticipate there will be an additional need for mentors and in particular clever and enthusiastic women.

In thanking Hans for the Forum,  Swinburne University of Technology AMEP Coordinator Julie Conan-Davies wrote:

“I would like to express great thanks for your involvement in the Employment Forum yesterday. In the end, we had 159 student registrations and I would estimate that 150 students turned up to participate in this event.  I really didn’t know how many students to expect, and this turnout was so pleasing.

“Your support, together with your Rotary colleagues, over the past few years has been so important to many of our students.  The opportunity for a new arrival to connect with a friend who can give them access to Australian networks and systems is so precious and you were right in your presentation yesterday that everybody benefits from a mentor.”
