Congratulation to our wonderful club for today continuing the Hat day tradition (zoom style).

It was so wonderful to see hats adorned by great big smiles and as a bonus, our generous members raised close to $900 for Rotary Health Foundation benefiting research into mental health.

We started with a bang by the creativity of our own celebrity member, Noel McInnes. Noel had taken the time to select beautiful images of the famous wearing their own style hats over the years, with perfectly selected music. Thank-you Noel, as I know it would have taken a lot to time, but it sure was worth it.

I believe everyone would agree that we all walked away from today’s meeting feeling a buzz. For the first time under my presidency, our meeting went over by close to 30 minutes. This was the result of having a guest speaker that was so engaging and created an energy that was second to none.

It was Victor Parton (right), a past state politician for over 18 years, along with being a barrister, author, mediator, arbitrator and now a public influence, spreading Optimism throughout the world, that created this buzz.

Victor highlighted what should be so simple to us all as a society but can often get lost amongst the fast pace of our society. We make a choice to be optimistic and by looking at three simple steps of smiling, laughing, and greeting one another with ‘What the best thing happening’, can create an energy that has proven to contribute to longevity.

Today Victor has helped to fill our toolbox with some skills including meditation, breathing, and making a conscious effort to give gratitude.

Congratulations to both Andrew Crockett (president elect) and Charlotte England (immediate past president), who were both crowned as winners for their creative hats, by Judge Delphine.

Reminder to help members to keep up the walking for Polio this month. Already my family have covered a combined effort of 110km. Bill Gates will match dollar for dollar raised by the foundation, so I encourage you to get your joggers out and start walking. Thankyou to Katrina Flinn and David Pisterman for championing this course.

Great feedback to hear that our club represented 33 people for the recent viewing of The Homeland story.

Join us next week on 13thOctober to listen to our own Phil Dolan, behind the badge.
