It is obvious that Zoom is really starting to work for our Club.  Katrina’s continued assistance to members has certainly provided an opportunity for more members to be included in our weekly meeting.

Today we have had 40 participants. 32 members, our speakers Jacqueline Tonks and Claire Falkiner from Clothesline Content, Pete Spring from the Lorne Historical Society and 7 guests:  Nick Pane Assistant Governor, Edward Fanning (Probus Club of Melbourne) Charlotte’s guest, Kath Leong, Katrina’s guests Barb Milh and Stuart Stockdale ( President of Taverners Vic),  David Rush’s guest Paul Reed, and Cheryl Pisterman from the Rotary Club of Glenferrie.

The story of the Great Ocean Road really is a fascinating one.  The film that was aired on SBS on Friday 24th April at 4 p.m. was well worth watching and I hope that any member who has not seen it yet does take the time to view it at their leisure.

Our thanks must go to Jacqueline Tonks and Claire Falkiner (left) from Clothesline Productions for illuminating the story and creating a film of lasting historical value to our community and to Pete Spring from the Lorne Historical Society for sharing with us the background to the building of the Great Ocean Road.  Too often we do not know the full history of special projects that have taken place in the past.  Having not grown up in Victoria I had little idea of how the Great Ocean Road came to fruition and I found the film and our meeting today enlightening.

It has certainly given our Club a much greater understanding of the project, the people who developed it and the returned service men and women who worked on the road to create the longest memorial in the world. The Great Ocean Road is an incredible achievement.

I trust that members are continuing to keep well, to stay safe and not feel too isolated.

On that note here are a few more pieces of music that I hope you will enjoy this week:

Gymnopedie No.1

Satie

Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana

Mascagni

New World Symphony

Dvorak

A Foggy Day

Benny Carter, Oscar Peterson

Next week we have Mu Yeh who we supported along with the Rotary Club of Nhill to attend the National Youth Science Forum.  Many Club Members did a road trip to Nhill, thanks to Noel Halford’s organisation, and met members of the Nhill Rotary Community last year.  Mu Yeh was introduced to our Club at that time. It was so rewarding for our Club to be able to assist the Rotary Club of Nhill in helping Mu Yeh to attend the NYSF and I am sure that his presentation next week will be of real interest to members.
