The cold morning of the 27th did not deter two members Ngaire Cannon and David Owen representing HRC from attending an event designed to encourage young students in Hawthorn to speak publicly.
A regular event organised by local MP and HRC member John Pesutto saw 10 secondary school students from local schools give a five minute address on some topic relevant to our community and nation. They were all excellent. Our two attending members amazingly were in agreement as to the best. One wonders if the judging panel of local leaders came up with the same result.
Extending from 9.30 to 11.30 it was both enjoyable and humbling to observe these talented young people. Doubtless on again next year it is recommended to members.
It was a fine precursor for our forthcoming public speaking training sessions at Swinburne University---Ngaire, Charlotte England and or David Rush have information on that.
