In the past couple of years Hawthorn Rotary has provided members to interview students at Auburn High School.
The students were required to submit applications for perceived "jobs"  and then be interviewed by us HRC "employers".

Last Wednesday morning 18 of our number interviewed over 40 year 9-10 students who had applied for such jobs.   Potential Barista's were common with a sprinkling of other professions such as teaching assistants and personal trainers.

Feedback from the school and students was rewarding.    It was wonderful to see how in a few short minutes our interviewers were able to interact with, calm down and provide positive feedback to the generally initially nervous students about the skills needed in dealing with an interview.

For our part it was a pleasure to meet some very talented students with interesting stories and backgrounds.   In retrospect recalling ourselves at fifteen or sixteen years most our of us conceded to an unfavorable comparison.

The school values the project and has planned for a second set of interviews in late May 2017 for another batch of students.   More to follow about volunteer interviewers needed.
