In introducing the Club Forum, President Charlotte praised members for their increasing attendance at lunchtime meetings, and their efforts to increase membership numbers.

Youth:  Kevin Rose (right) acknowledged the work of Geoff Wright and David Owen in the mock job interviews, and Hans Carlborg for the Swinburne University mentoring. The club continues support for the Model UN Assembly.

Katrina Flinn doubled up to report first as Treasurer and International Chairman, describing fundraising efforts and distribution of funds to local and international needs:  assistance to Cambodia through containers and Donations-in-Kind, Australian Rotary Health, Swinburne University public speaking and the Salvo Hawks. She mooted the possibility of a club visit to one of our projects in Timor or Cambodia, and added that Dick Smith had added another million dollars to the available charitable funds.  Katrina made the point that the club’s contribution to the community could not be measured financially.

The Rotary Foundation was described by David Pisterman, who described the US$384 million distributed to the needy. Our club has six Paul Harris Society members and several Centurions, who support the Foundation with annual donations, raising our club contribution over $10,000 annually.  David described a Foundation Dinner to be held in November with Glenferrie RC, with speaker PRIP Ravi Ravindran, who is Chairman-elect of the Rotary Foundation.

Club Service was described by Noel Halford, and he included Ian Bentley’s Vocational Portfolio. The Coffee Cup project is being considered by Swinburne University marketing students. The speaker program features career development, and will include a vocational visit to the medical regeneration laboratory. Noel described the visit to Nhill, and how their nominated student Muh Yeh is delighted to be accepted for the National Youth Science Forum in Canberra.  Christmas lunch for the socially isolated continues to be one of our better community projects. Membership is slowly increasing, and the Wednesday evening meetings have interesting speakers. (See the notice later in this bulletin) Fundraising through the sale of Xmas fare and car-parking continues.

Well done, all the presenters: Hawthorn Rotary is travelling very nicely.
