Boroondara Cares  Education CHANCES Program reached its 10th anniversary in 2017 and has an outstanding success record at keeping children in school through secondary and tertiary education.

Boroondara Cares has awarded over 1000 scholarships, and 99% of our recipients have completed a degree or vocational qualification.

Today we provide more than 100 scholarships each year to students.

Last week President Charlotte and David Pisterman presented Helen Worlage of Boroondara Cares with a cheque representing the $1600 we raised from our Zoom meetings. This amount will support a disadvantaged child for a year through the “Chances” Programme.

After describing how the Chances program provides needy children with the school “extras” and thanking Hawthorn Rotary, Helen read out a letter from a former recipient, who, in thanking the Chances program described how it had restored his self-esteem to apply himself at school, gain a 99.9 pass mark and then a B.Sc.

We are also supporting a Chances recipient as an applicant for the “Science Experience”.

President Charlotte thanked David Pisterman for his “brainwave” to seek lunch-time donations at our Zoom meetings to fund the scholarship, and members for their contribution. We also thanks Peter England for the photo.
