The Cure for Hawaii's Ailing Economy

Keli‘i Akina, Ph.D. is President and CEO of the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii, a public policy research institution dedicated to the principles of individual liberty, economic freedom and limited, accountable government. He also is a trustee-at-large for Hawaii’s Office of Hawaiian Affairs, a position to which he was elected in 2016, then re-elected in 2020. He is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools, and holds a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University, and a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Hawaii. He is a Pacific Century Fellow, a program modeled after the White House Fellows. He is a former president of Youth for Christ in Hawaii and founded the Center for Tomorrow’s Leaders.
