About BookSpring Delivered

Gifting books to families who have few to none in their home has an immediate positive social-emotional impact, including motivation, empathy, and hope. It’s critical that all children and families have something meaningful and productive to do while they are sheltering in place.

BookSpring Delivered allows us to distribute curated fiction and nonfiction board, picture, and chapter books that are matched to home language, reading level, and the child’s natural interests. The books are delivered in a package with tips and online resources to increase family reading behaviors at home. Parents and caregivers will be invited to opt-in to periodic text messages with tips, suggested activities, and links to additional reading resources on the BookSpring website. The books and materials are not only skill-building, they are intended to bring joy, curiosity, and meaningful child to caregiver interaction within their family and the world around them.

About Emily (Executive Director)

As the Executive Director of BookSpring, Emily Ball Cicchini balances a hopeful vision of a fully literate future with a strong tradition of promoting reading together in the home. She’s inspired by the important work of BookSpring to get a steady stream of the right books to the right kids at the right time. She has over 20 years of experience in non-profit and educational management, including leadership roles with The University of Texas at Austin, VSA Arts of Texas, Austin Script Works, Texans for the Arts, and Zach Theatre. What drives all her work is a sense of social justice for equal access to knowledge and a deep passion for language and stories. She’s holds and MFA in creative writing as a James A. Michener Fellow and will soon be finishing her doctorate in organizing from Moody College of Communication. As former teaching artist and award-winning children’s playwright, she loves words and likes to read and play together with her family.

About Andrea (Director of Development and Marketing)

Andrea brings her public library background, nonprofit expertise, entrepreneurial spirit, and years of service on education and arts boards nationally and internationally to BookSpring. Her love of books began early with story hour at Martin Memorial Library in York, Pennsylvania. Fast forward many years later, her first professional position out of graduate school was Extension Librarian at this very same library.
