About:
Every year, March 4th is recognized worldwide as World Obesity Day and is dedicated to addressing the global obesity epidemic. Advocates around the world call on governments and decision-makers to introduce policies and protections that address the environmental, social and commercial roots of obesity. With the 2022 World Obesity Day theme – “Everybody Needs To Act” – countries are called upon to work together for happier, healthier and longer lives for everybody.

District 7030 Governor Sonya Alleyne has taken the opportunity to “Get involved with World Obesity Day!"

Established in 2020, the long-term goal of Rotary District 7030's Childhood Obesity Prevention (COP) program is to promote, advocate and facilitate information and initiatives among clubs and communities  in the Caribbean in tackling childhood obesity. Thus, as part of its ongoing commitment to curbing and preventing childhood obesity, Rotary District 7030 is pleased to announce the launch of the latest district initiatives and campaign – ‘7030 Moves for COP’.

In recognition of World Obesity Day, beginning on January 24th 2022 and culminating in a Rotary Day of Service on March 6th 2022, this campaign and its initiatives serve to raise awareness of the determinants and consequences of childhood obesity in the region and showcase actions that can be taken by members and clubs to combat this pressing issue. Over the course of a month, members, clubs and the wider community will be encouraged to partake in physical activity challenges and involve children in the same, while information about Childhood Obesity Prevention (COP) will also be shared and promoted via Rotary channels.

The District is encouraging all social media posts of activities to include the following hashtags:
  1. #District7030Moves
  2. #WorldObesityDay
  3. #ThisIsHowIMove
  4. #EverybodyNeedsToAct
