Make-A-Wish
Apr. 07, 2016
Sheila Rees has been a proud member of the Make-A-Wish family since joining the team in 2012. Four years later she remains truly passionate about the organization’s mission to bring hope, strength and joy to children with life-threatening medical conditions, through the granting of magical, life-transforming wishes. As Regional Director for the Toronto & Central Ontario Chapter, Sheila manages one of eight regional chapters across the country, to ensure excellence in the delivery of the mission, stewardship of donors and donor investments and advancement of the brand. Sheila came to Make-A-Wish with more than 20 years of experience working with not-for-profit organizations in the post-secondary, health and social services sectors. In her role with Make-A-Wish, Sheila is driven by the foundation’s vision to grant the wish of every eligible child in Canada and advocates that a wish-come-true is not just a “nice to have” but a “must have” for a critically-ill child and their family. |

Pierre has accepted to put on the "Chemins des Canadiens" one of Dianne's Ping Pong table. The Chemin des Canadiens is the road the Canadian 85th Batallion, commanded by Major Percival Anderson, used to take Hill 145 (now the Vimy Memorial itself) on April 9 to 13 1917, creating for the first time a Canadian identity and Canada as a nation. Pierre Senechal's intervention will be the first Skype connection for our club. During Pierre's intervention, the logistics of Dianne's Ping Pong table shipment will be organized.

Kabul University Cardiac Research Institute
Aug. 18, 2016
Dr. Naebkhil is the founder of the Kabul Medical University Cardiac Research Institute in Afghanistan. This is an "against all odds" story where he returned to Afghanistan after 25 years in Canada and bootstrapped the centre, using an abandoned women's dormitory plus donated equipment that the Rotary Club of Windsor helped him secure and ship to Afghanistan. They operated for a few years on a shoestring, providing basic cardiac care to all comers at no charge. Then President Karzai got wind of their successes and provided government funding to provide capital for equipment and operating funds for salaries. Today the institute has more than 200 staff including 22 cardiologists and is serving thousands of patients. |
