Linda Raudabaugh, Volunteer Manager for Monroe County Meals on Wheels (MOW), presented an interesting discussion on our Countywide Meals on Wheels program. Church Women United organized Monroe County’s MOW program in 1972 with the support of the Monroe County Clergy Association. We have come a long way from serving 11 clients on 2 routes to today's program that serves about 300 clients along 12 routes. Approximately 280 volunteers support MOW by giving more than 8,500 hours and driving about 114,000 miles annually. MOW depends on grants, individual donations, United Way and special fundraising projects for funding to supplement what client's provides either through their receipt of federal, state or county monies or private pay. In addition to providing nutritious meals to our clients, MOW also helps take care of their furry friends. Since 2009, we have been providing dog and cat food. Michael Peterson, VP of Board joined Linda in the MOW presentation. He has been a long term volunteer, even though still working. He promoted the call for more volunteers, can be as little as once a month for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. MOW volunteers not only provide meals but also a social contact - sometimes the only contact they get.
