From the desk of Rotarian Leslie Underhill
About 3 1/2 weeks ago I lost my little Jack Russell of 16 years. I found myself needing a distraction so I started a sourdough starter. It needs almost as much time and attention as that little 12 pound rascal. Through my baking trials I have gotten to making a really beautiful, rustic and tasty Artisan Loaf called Pain de Campagne, which is about a 1 3/4 -2 pound round loaf. It is made with white, wheat and sometimes a touch of Rye flour, salt, water and yeast (which is the sourdough). It improves with age for a couple of days after baking and can last nearly a week (if you have self control).
I'm making 4 loaves a day and and asking for a $20 donation to the Stroudsburg Rotary Foundation. Last week raised a little over $400 for the Foundation. I writing to ask for your help. I am not asking you to buy this bread (you do so much for Rotary already) but I am asking you to tell your friends, family members, neighbors and co workers who are in the area. The votes are in and this is a very good bread, unlike anything you can buy in this area and we are supporting a great cause.
