Rotary Minutes Dec 18 2023
“Rudolph, the red nosed reindeer, had a very shiny nose…” What, what am I doing? Well, I was caroling one of my favorite holiday songs. What? Sure, I can pen the minutes of the Rotary Club of Harrisburg’s December 18th meeting---just as long as I can also name Rudolph’s famous sled mates.
Comet, Vixen and Cupid, and President Ellen rang the bell at 12:11 sharp as Club members were enjoying the wonderful piano player of Norma---welcome back Norma! Mr. Lutz provided the invocation and Mr. Hickey had us giggling with a rendition of Deck The Halls. Mr. Stevens hosted the introduction of two guests.
Donner, Dasher and Blitzen and Ho Ho Ho as we hosted a fun vote of the silliest Holiday sweater. Club Photographer Beth will have the photos of the many members that joined in the fun and the winning trio of Hickey, Hoover and the Grand Elf, Shawn Eng. We were then blessed with a slide show set to the song, So This is Christmas, and a poignant inspirational prayer for our world.
Prancer, Dancer and Rudolph and President Ellen provided a warm and wonderful introduction for today’s program. Rob Mott, Associate Director of The Valley Youth House was pulling the sled for the meeting today as his lead reindeer, Tom Harrington, was unable to attend today. This last-minute pinch hitter filled in admirably as slides detailing the 50 year young organization outlined this unintentionally secret organization and their efforts to “help every young person belong to a nurturing community.”
We learned sad facts about adverse experiences and foster care results and then we heard happy facts about Valley Youth House’s team and work in Dauphin and Perry Counties. We even heard from one young man who shared his experience the past 5 years and concluded with a ringing endorsement.
“Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way…” What, what am I doing? Well, since the minutes are done and we mentioned ringing, it made sense to simply carol another one of my favorites. Hope you are all blessed.
