Rotary Minutes January 8, 2024
“Forest Gump, Star Wars, Rocky…” What? What am I doing? Well, long story short, I was late to start taking the minutes of the Rotary Club meeting this past Monday, and now I am thinking of my favorite movies as I try to explain to the readers that they are going to be proverbially late to the meeting as my notes start at 12:29. Hey, I have an idea, how about if we forgive me for missing some notes and also have some fun figuring out our favorite movie of all time?
“Toy Story, Truman Show, Caddyshack”…and President Ellen did ring the bell and host a warm welcome to the full house with a Happy New Year shout. We were blessed with nine guests today (LOL, I did not capture their names but certainly was smiling to meet them.) …and the time is 12:30 and Ryan Unger graciously introduces today’s speaker---Dr. Wanda Knight, PH. D., Asst. Dean of Diversity, equity and inclusion at Penn State Harrisburg.
“Sound of Music, Elf, Jaws”…and our speaker was awesome today. Dr. Knight provided a thoughtful and contemplative outline of the “Building Blocks of IDEAL” diversity, equity and inclusion. Her first slide showed toy building blocks spelling out the word ideal. This worked out to an acronym for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Access and be-Longing.
“Titanic, Shawshank, E.T.”….we hope you were with us today. This was a powerful message noting that it takes a village, all of us together as teamwork makes dreamwork according to Dr. Knight. We were left with the word “Remember” and encouraged to be positive appreciating that everyone benefits from D E and I. Meeting adjourned at 1:05.
“The Godfather, Home Alone, The Grinch”….what is your favorite movie? Let us know at our next Hilton Meeting on the 26th.
