Fellow Rotarians ~

World Polio Day is almost here!  It’s Tuesday, October 24, 2017.  This will truly be a day to celebrate how far we’ve come, as an organization, to eradicating the 2nd disease in human history.  Smallpox was the first to be eradicated.  Rotary began the fight to end polio in 1979 when over 350,000 cases were known in 125 countries worldwide.  Thirty eight years later, there were only 11 new cases tracked globally in 2017 down from 25 the previous year: 6 in Afghanistan; 5 in Pakistan; and 0 reported cases in Nigeria.   Some of us have never known or fully understood the crippling effects of polio in our lifetimes, but the truth of the matter is that if polio exists anywhere, it is a threat everywhere.  We must educate ourselves, share what we know, and fund the efforts of thousands of volunteers who literally stand in harm’s way to administer the polio vaccine through Rotary International.  Let’s #ENDpolioNOW

I am so happy to tell you that Pints for Polio is really taking hold throughout the district!  Imagine if we raise $5000 in proceeds from all of our eating and drinking on October 24 and throughout the week, we could be making a $15,000 impact to end polio now!  Every dollar raised will be matched 2:1 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Please share the flier with all of your friends and family and plan to have a night out to support polio eradication.  Click here to print the flyer and take it along to any of the destinations listed.  Other district-wide events include:
