New BBQs add more family fun to Memorial Park

Expanding the recreational enjoyment of Delta residents even further at Memorial Park in Ladner, after the official opening of the Ladner Rotary Splash Park in July 2018, the Rotary Club of Ladner and the City of Delta have collaborated once again by installing nearby three outdoor cooking grills and renovating the adjacent gazebo. -- photos by Chris Offer and Peter Roaf
 
One large BBQ grill and two smaller ones are now installed next to the gazebo in Memorial Park for family enjoyment, adjacent to the Ladner Rotary Splash Park in the background, also sponsored by Rotary Club of Ladner and City of Delta
 
Delta Mayor George Harvie and Delta Councillor Dylan Kruger, as well as Delta Member of Parliament Hon. Carla Qualtrough and Delta South Member of the Legislative Assembly Ian Paton joined Rotary Club of Ladner President Bridget Jacob with Ladner Rotary club members, including project leader Irene Forcier, and City staff on September 17, 2019 to officially open the $8,000 joint project. Mayor Harvie said that when he started with the City of Delta many years ago, Memorial Park was a rather a featureless area. Now, he said, the park is so full of life, thanks in good part to the Rotary Club of Ladner, as thousands of people use it, with the Ladner Rotary Splash Park, the Christmas tree lighting in December and now the new grills.
 
Rotary Club of Ladner President Bridget Jacob thanked Mayor Harvie, Delta Council and senior staff for the opportunity to jointly fund the new facilities with the City. She said families in Delta have now enjoyed the previous joint project of the Ladner Rotary Splash Park over the past two summers, in honour of the community's farming heritage and now families can have even more outdoor fun using the outdoor cooking and dining features.
 
The new facilities are next door to the Lois E. Jackson Kinsmen Centre for Children adding another opportunity for children and families using the Reach Child and Youth Development Society building as well as families throughout the region.
