Heiwa Rotary Hiroshima Survivor Tree Project: What it is, Where it is Going and How it Can Help You Spread Peace

WE Rotary club members Steve Yoshida, Lee Dombroski, Steve Leeper and President Ray Matsumiya will present the following topics:

1) The history and symbolism of the survivor trees from Hiroshima

2) The mission and impact of the Heiwa Rotary Hiroshima Survivor Tree project

3) Specific instructions and guidance on how you can plant your own Heiwa survivor tree at a meaningful location in your community.

Heiwa Rotary Survivor Tree Mission:

To enable Rotarians to advance World Peace by planting Hiroshima survivor plants and bringing awareness of the dangers of nuclear weapons.

Our Story:

Heiwa: Rotary Hiroshima Survivor Trees (Heiwa) is a coalition of Rotary clubs in Japan and the US. We distribute survivor seeds and plants from Hiroshima with the message of peace, hope, and survivability. Our members include a Nobel Peace Prize recipient and Hiroshima bomb survivors.

Heiwa grew from the vision of its parent, Green Legacy Hiroshima (GLH), working under its guidance. Now Heiwa harvests survivor seeds and grows plants in its own greenhouses in Hawaii and California to share with Rotary clubs all over the world. Heiwa is happy to carry on the tradition started by GLH.

Heiwa has made Rotary presentations at the RI President's peace conferences in Ontario USA, Seoul, and Atlanta and Vancouver B.C..  Each time receiving more requests from Rotarians for our peace seeds and trees. In Atlanta, we distributed over 250 seeds and plants, including to The Carter Center. In June 2022, Rotary International President Shaker Mehta will be planting a Heiwa tree at the convention in Houston.

Don’t miss this important presentation!  We look forward to your joining us and, as always we value your questions and comments.

Best Regards,
