The JSMC has received grants to help with workforce retention and industry innovation.

It was a busy day for Rotary! After Paul Crow delivered a brief look at this date in history for Fellowship, Harold Bishchoff commended the 20 riders who participated in Cycle for Life on Saturday. Dave Cockerell reported on the successful Dictionary Distribution and thanked everyone who participated.

President David Runk presented Charlene Gilbert, Jody Sutherland and Andy Wannemacher with their blue badges before Dick Schroeder spoke about the importance of Every Rotarian Every Year and urged us all to participate in the Annual Fund. He then awarded Cliff Barber his +1 Pin. Congratulations and thank you Cliff!

Program chair Jeff Sprague introduced the day’s speakers, Cynthia Leis and Denny Glenn, who discussed the Office of Economic Adjustment Grant. The Grant was made available through the Ohio Federal Military Jobs Commission to communities affected by the downturn in federal contracts to help with workforce retention and industry innovation. During Phase 1 of the grant, led by Glenn, the Allen County Commissioners received $220,000 plus an additional $20,000 Regional Growth Partnership Grant. More than 315 community members participated in the Regional Asset Inventory and Readiness Analysis and created an Action Plan. Based on that Action Plan, the Commissioners received Phase 2 funding as well, totally $3.4 million over the next 24 months. Leis is responsible for implementing Phase 2, which will include 3 components: Local and Regional Collaborative Growth, the Ohio Energy Advanced Manufacturing Center Effort, and a Social Media/Communications Plan.
