The Program speakers on the January 31st Rotary Club meeting of Edina were three Daughters of The American Revolution: Terry Anderson, Gigi Hickey and Wendi Moffly.
 
Nate Wenner spoke the invocation and in face of anxiety and fear told us to be grateful for Love, Friends, Nature, and Opportunities to “give back” Les Jones introduced the guests: - Greg Gable guest of Royce Pavelka - Mary Lee Jennings and Wendi Moffly, guest of husband and father Joel Jennings - Hokyu Lee, guest of Wooj Byun and visiting Rotary Margaret Johnson, Edina Morningside, Secretary Steve Slyce inducted new Rotary Member Joe Mahoney The following events were announced: Bowling Night 2-2-2019 by Sutton McGraw, Happy Hour/Vocational Development Group by Jennifer Hendrickson, CPR Training following the meeting on 2-7-2019 by Marty Kupper.
Joel Jennings introduced the three speakers, all Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR): Terry Anderson, Gigi Hickey, and his daughter Wendi Moffly.

Terry Anderson explained that DAR is a lineage society. Any woman, 18 years or older, who can prove a lineal descent of a patriot of the American Revolution, may apply for membership. The organization was founded in 1890. It is a nonprofit, non-political volunteer service. The DAR own the Constitution Hall, located at 1776 D Street in Washington DC (near the White House) that was built in 1929 and designed to be the place for the annual DAR convention. It houses a museum with period rooms and a music hall. DAR counts presently 185,000 members and 3000 national chapters. DAR volunteer hours amount to 5 Million. The goal of DAR is Historic Preservation, Educational Promotion and Patriotic Endeavors. Wendi Moffly spoke about DAR chapters in Minnesota. There are 22 active chapters, 10 of them in the Metropolitan area. The largest chapter is in Edina. Wendi belongs to the Lake Minnetonka chapter which was founded in 2005. It has 95 members as of 1-1-2019. Meetings are near Wayzata, presently in the Masonic Home. Wendi reported that it is a dynamic group with diverse interests. They hold 4 meetings per year. Gigi Hickey described activities of the DAR in the area. They have essay competition covering American history. This year the topic will be Christopher Columbus. Information is handed out by the DAR during Constitution week. This event, as well as the Apple Day in Excelsior, bring alive for adults and children the history of the American Revolution. In addition, Veterans of WWII and the Korean War are honored. They celebrate Veteran’s Day in Wayzata, support a Book Club, help support shelters for veterans and honor Minnesota Pioneer Women.

Bob Solheim: Thanked the speakers remembering his great uncle and John Flynn: concluded the meeting telling only one chromosome prevented him from being a DAR member.
