On Thursday, March 24, 2016, we had the honor of having Roberta Humphreys, Professor at the University of Minnesota Institute of Astrophysics, speak to the Noon Rotary.  She talked to us about The Hubble, which is a space telescope.  The telescope was named after Edwin Hubble, a famous 1983 astronomer.  It launched into space in 1990 and has been operational for 26 years.  Roberta told us the advantages of having a telescope in space and not on the ground is that it is the best to see the atmosphere, it also has a very high-resolution image, and it shows better wavelength coverage that includes ultraviolet light waves.  She sees the future through the James Webb Space Telescope that will launch in 2018.  Her presentation was so interesting and we were honored to have her speak to the Noon Rotary.
