We again have an opportunity to impact the live of youth in our community, in partnership with Wings Financial.

Wings is covering all of the logistics and financial costs, including bussing of students. I am looking for a few volunteers who may be available, or have someone in their office or network available, to assist with a financial education piece Wings is putting together. I've included those on this email who may be best able to help us fill the specific booths listed at the bottom of this email - when you see the categories, one or more of them may be of specific interest. While anyone could fill these roles with the script provided, those with specific experience in these areas will bring more 'reality' to the reality fair.    Please read the description below and let me know if you can help me fill one or more of these spots.

Description of the Project:

Wings Financial Credit Union will be hosting a Reality Fair for students who attend Burnsville High School (BHS) and Apple Valley High School (AVHS) during the month of April. The Reality Fair will provide a “real life” simulation for high school students to practice budgeting and make financial choices based on their life scenario. The students will be given a life scenario and training prior to the simulation. The day of the simulation, students will visit different merchants such as housing, grocery, daycare, etc. and will make financial choices for their “life”. This is a hands on experience for students that will engage them in the budgeting and financial decision making process.

Goals and Objectives

The goal of the simulation is for students to leave with a better understanding of the importance of budgeting and good money management skills.

In addition, Wings goal is to bring awareness about our commitment to financial education to the community and the schools within the communities that we serve.

  • Session Objectives

    • Practice budgeting as an adult with realistic circumstances.

    • Identify and experience the consequences of poor decisions. We want students to overspend, so they realize the power of making sound financial choices.

    • Develop good judgment regarding spending and making a budget.

    • Understand that budgeting is a necessary step in good money management and that it isn’t as difficult as they may think.
