The Rotary Club of Edina and Rotary Club of Edina Morningside would like to invite the members of your club to join a Human Trafficking Workshop, which will be hosted on Thursday, September 17th, from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm. Our clubs have offered similar workshops in the past, however this is a rare opportunity for other clubs’ members and the public to join in via Zoom, free of charge.

Every year, 2.5 million people fall victims to human trafficking and it happens right here in our city and in our neighborhoods. This topic is more important than ever given the current economic and political environment. The workshop is dedicated to educating and bringing awareness to human trafficking, how to identify who is at risk and the steps you can take to prevent sexual assault in your community.

Last year’s workshop was a great success. This year, we have another panel of incredible speakers:

  • Jessica Bartholomew, retired police officer, founder and Executive Director of Anti Child Trafficking United, a Minnesota nonprofit that educates communities on preventing child trafficking.
  • John Turnipseed, Executive Vice President of Urban Ventures, a nonprofit dedicated to

transforming the Minneapolis community, he once terrorized as a gang member.

  • Jennifer Gaines, trafficking survivor and owner of Affective Sober Living by JCS, a sober home for women in recovery.

Human trafficking is the third-largest crime industry, after drug dealing and arms trafficking, and is the fastest-growing activity of trans-national criminal organizations. That’s why education on the topic is an important Rotary initiative and we welcome everyone to participate.

Please see the flyer attached for more information and a link to register.  Below is also the link for the zoom registration:

Sincerely,

Edina Rotary & Edina Morningside Rotary
