THE COFFEE'S ON US!

On Wednesday October 4 – Cheryl Zuhlsdorff and I (Sandi Tarant) went to Fountain Gate
shopping centre to experience ‘Coffee with a Cop’.  I noticed it on Facebook and shared it on my FB page and Cheryl saw it.  We had a great time having a cup of coffee with First Constable Trent Parker.  I was interested in how this event came about and Trent gave me a card with the name Laura Carter and her email address.
The following is the story that Laura Carter gave me. It is interesting.
 
The Coffee’s On Us!
Coffee with a Cop originated in the United States in 2011 and we brought it to Victoria and Australia in 2015, hosting the first event at Endeavour Hills Shopping Centre. Since then, the program has been established across Casey, Cardinia and Greater Dandenong.
 
We now run monthly events with the support of local shopping centres.

Coffee with a Cop is an opportunity for the community to meet and have a chat with their local police over a free cup of coffee. It is a friendly, informal chance for people to ask questions, voice concerns or just say g'day without having to call 000. It's also a great opportunity for people to introduce their children to police and let them know that we are there for them and not to be scared of police.
 
Police love it because it is a chance for us to positively engage with the community and get to know them. It is also a good opportunity for us to find out what the community's concerns are in relation to crime prevention and keeping them safe. It helps us do our job better, helps us serve the community better.
 
Yesterday was International Coffee with a Cop Day and we celebrated this by hosting all our events on the same day at the same time! We hosted six events across the division (Casey, Cardinia and Greater Dandenong) and over 200 people got to meet and chat with their local police. That's a whole lot of coffee!!
