This week Rotary Club of Berwick members were out and about delivering and picking up art screens, visiting the Split Rock Rover Crew at the Igloo, experiencing fellowship at the Pine Grove Hotel with the young Rovers and hosting the Farmers and Craft Market.

Meanwhile Membership Director Sharmaine Squire, with help from Rotarians Doug and Rhonda Anderson and Julie Allgood were busy interviewing our candidates for membership - Cheryl Zuhlsdorff, David Cuttler, Gary Castricum and Gaetano Fina. The great news is that they have all been found to be worthy candidates who will make excellent Rotarians. If all the stars align, and in a “Club first”, the four new members will be inducted on Wednesday the 1st of November, in what promises to be quite a memorable event not only for our quartet but also for the Club.

Last Wednesday, instead of our usual meeting at Holm Park we visited the Split Rock Rover Crew at their headquarters, the Igloo, in Upper Beaconsfield. It was a great night of exchange and fellowship with the young Rovers. Steve Marshall was a welcomed guest and no doubt he enjoyed the exchange. We were all very impressed with the Crew, their passion for service and commitment to Scouts. Congratulations to Crew Leader Cameron Brock and Rover Advisor Lachlan McDonald for a great presentation and thank you for extending the hand of friendship and making us feel so welcomed.

Thank you also to our Vocational Visit Co-ordinator Past President (PP) Geoff Double, ably assisted by Di and Scott (himself a Rover), for organising the visit. I was delighted to present the SRRC with a cheque on behalf of the Rotary Club of Berwick to go towards the purchase of a marquee that will be used to protect the Rovers when they are helping out at community events. Often they don’t have a place to sit and rest during those events, far from crowds and protected from the elements.

On Saturday Cheryl Zuhlsdorff (our soon to be member) managed to deliver another successful Farmers and Craft Market despite patronage being lower than usual. We understand thousands of Casey residents flocked to Fountain Gate on Saturday for the free event to mark the Grand Opening of Bunjil Place. Well done Cheryl and thank you to all Rotarians who were on deck to assist, some from as early as 6am.

Quite fitting then that at our next meeting at Holm Park on the 1st of November, Emma Bentley and Michelle Nichols, from the City of Casey, will be our guest speakers and will talk to members and all those in attendance to Bunjil Place, the City’s vibrant new cultural and entertainment precinct and on all accounts its new pièce de résistance.

This week, as we prepare to induct four new members to Rotary, we introduce a new “Why did I join Rotary” segment in the bulletin. Personalising the experience, is said the most effective way to describe what Rotary is all about.  Starting with our very own bulletin editor Sandi Tarant, I hope you enjoy the anecdotes and moments of clarity as recounted by members as they said “Yes” to joining Rotary and a life of “Service Above Self”. Thank you Sandi for accepting to share your inspirational story.
Enjoy!!
