Welcome to the 30th edition of Spoke ‘n’ Words. “Be the Inspiration” was unveiled to the world last week as the Rotary International Presidential Theme for 2018-19. In unveiling the new theme Rotary International President-elect Barry Rassin challenged incoming district governors to inspire club presidents and Rotarians in their districts, “to want to change, to want to do more and to want to reach their own potential.” I look forward to working with President-elect Lea Paton and her Board and members of the Rotary Club of Berwick to “Be the Inspiration”.
At our meeting on Wednesday the 21st of February members, visitors and guests were on hand to hear renowned physiotherapist John Wilson’s talk on migraine headaches. John told us about the different types of headaches and how they can be identified. A migraine headache is the effect of other ailments in the body which if left untreated that can be fatal. John’s extensive experience in the field made for a very interesting and engaging presentation.
It was great to welcome Pat and Fred Edwards to the meeting, as well as Rotarian Glenn “Schuey” Schumacher who had not been able to attend meetings for quite a while.
A special welcome was extended to Clare Ganderton who has now lodged her application for membership. Clare’s extensive background in nursing and nurse education and training means that she has spent her career at the service of others and making a difference. She has the background and the passion to become involved in any the many Rotary health programs. After meeting with Colin Byron at our Club meeting two weeks ago, the Rotary Oceania medical Aid for Children (ROMAC) may just be the first cab of the rank. Colin Byron is the District 9820 Chair for ROMAC.
Thank you Trevor Bailey for Chairing the meeting and keeping proceedings on track and PP Adrian Funston for stepping in as Acting Sergeant at the last minute (literally). A huge thank you also to the Rotarians who were on Attendance and Fellowship duties on the night, especially our newest members David Cutler and Gary Castricum who both did an excellent job setting up for the meeting.
Please check the new “In case you missed it…” segment for the latest information about Club projects, activities and programs. As the name suggests the segment is designed to keep all members up to date, especially those members who are unable to attend meetings.
This coming Wednesday, 28th February, members and friends of the Rotary Club of Berwick will converge onto the Wilson Botanic Park in Berwick, for the annual working bee and clean up. After all the hard work we will gather for fellowship with the customary BBQ and drinks.
