Service Announcement: Our March 23rd meeting will be held at the Radisson Hotel located on Speedway between Wilmot and Kolb. Please mark your calendar!

CHARLIE MEAKER had a fun meeting introducing Guests and Visitors, and there were a whole bunch this week. CHARLIE did a great job pronouncing names, but I was most impressed with his standing as a 34-year member of RCOT!

We started the meeting in reverse order and began with our program, the “Four Way Test Competition”. We were fortunate to have three local high school Interact members present this year. Ki Haung started and presented us with a brief review of lead poisoning and the efforts of Claire Paterson to end the use of lead as an additive in gasoline. This was followed by Melanie Cruz Higuera and her review of how Cesar Chavez worked tirelessly to end the exploitation of migrant workers in the farming industry. And last but not least, Tiffany Herlocker reviewed the subject of bullying and how people can and should intervene before the act of bullying results in tragedy. All three subjects were interesting and well presented. In the end, Ki Haung was chosen as the winner. (If I’m not mistaken, he won last year also.)

We also had a very special presentation. Our District Governor was on hand to present CHARLOTTE HARRIS with a Rotary International award to thank her for her many years of “service above self” helping to make the world a better place. Congratulations CHARLOTTE on an award well deserved!

And speaking of HARRIS, we had a few Paul Harris award recipients as well. TOM PATTERSON received his award +2. We also learned that, based upon his Navy Submarine driving record back in the day, we should choose someone else as designated driver when taking our next submarine ride! MARY MARTIN received her award +3. JIM DAVENPORT received his award +4. And finally PAT ZUMBUSCH received his award also +4. Thanks to all of you for your continued support to Rotary!

We had a Happy Jackson today as well.  Dr. ALAN ROGERS announced the birth of his first granddaughter.  ALAN, I think grandchildren are the greatest because you get to turn them over to Mom and Dad when they start misbehaving!

And finally, a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY shout-out to DREW VACTOR! Enjoy the beautiful weather and I’ll see you all again next week.
