Lynn Rotary is Ending Hunger
The statistics on world hunger are staggering. The United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization recently estimated that from 2014-2016, about 795 million people of the 73 billion people in the world, or one in nine, suffer from chronic undernourishment. On Saturday morning, at Lynn's St. Mary’s High School cafeteria, a group of about 70 dedicated volunteers ranging in age from teenagers to a few octogenarians, combined forces to do their part to alleviate hunger in the world.

Stop Hunger Now is a meal-packaging event where volunteers set-up and take down packaging stations and equipment, fill bins with raw ingredients, scoop ingredients into meal bags, weigh and seal the bags, box and stack them on pallets and load the pallets and equipment onto a truck for distribution in developing countries.

Gloucester Rotary Club loses a “Giant”  Rudy Macchi
On Friday, April 1, 2016, the community of Gloucester celebrated the funeral mass of one of its “giant” civic leaders, Rudy Macchi.  Rudy, a member of the Gloucester Rotary Club for 40 years,  serving as past President, past Assistant Governor, and Paul Harris Fellow, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2016.

His contributions as a civic leader were vast as was his kindness and generosity toward others.  Gloucester Rotarian and past Executive Director of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce, Mike Costello offered words of remembrance at the funeral Mass celebrated at Holy Family Parish, where Rudy served as a member of the Finance Committee and had accompanied the church’s pastor on a pilgrimage to Italy this past Fall.

Costello remembered Rudy Macchi as a kind man who was known by many as a character and a jokester, yet was also quick to roll up his sleeves and climb into the trenches to get something done. He exhibited the mantle of leadership for many organizations, and was a giant among local leaders.

If you’re worried that you don’t know how to teach, don’t be! Consider joining us next year and you’ll be paired with a partner and you’ll receive a powerful and easy-to-follow lesson that walks you through every step of the process. Horsemanship for Heroes
The Rotary Club of Topsfield, Boxford, and Middleton has supported the important work being done at Windrush Farm therapeutic riding center, but Rotarian Bob heard about Horsemanship for Heroes, he knew it was something that other Rotary clubs would want to support.

The H4H program at Windrush helps veterans with challenges, including head and spinal cord injuries, amputation, auditory and visual impairments, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Benefits to the veterans include normalized muscle tone, increased range of motion, greater confidence and self-esteem, increased strengthen and better coordination of fine and gross motor skills, improved patience and emotional control, and increased concentration and self-awareness.

In addition to therapeutic riding, there are un-mounted activities and volunteer opportunities working with horses that are also available to veterans.

If you would like to join the TBM club in supporting this important program, please email Dan Weir or call him at 978-766-7473.
