The Drought in Northern NSW and Outback Queensland has been in the news of late with the “Hay Runners” from Burrumbuttock making news. What a wonderful way for our farmers and rural communities to show their support in time of need.

Drought does not only affect the poor starving animals and the struggling farmer trying to make a living but impacts on the whole community. The stress on family members and local businesses cannot be underestimated, tragically many succumb to these hardships.
Congratulations and thank you to our members and clubs who have supported the Hay Run and other initiatives. I am aware Coolamon Rotary Club supported the Hay Run with a donation and that South Wagga member Eugene Maloney participated, here is part of his email.
“Bill,
This has been the best thing I have done in Rotary
The tears have flowed from Cobar to Longreach
Be sure to congratulate Sth Wagga for the donation as I will still be on the road.”
I am sure other members and clubs have done likewise. The District Governors from both the Districts involved have been deeply concerned and have relief operations in place. DG John Crawford from D9630 (Qld) has distributed some $300,000.00 in aid so far, a mighty effort. If you or your club would like to contribute, the information is below.

I remember well the drought we suffered in this area around 8 years ago and our efforts and support to our farmers,
and organising movie nights which benefited the whole community. The obvious joy this brought to our farmers just knowing somebody cared was valuable to them.
