AUGUST IS MEMBERSHIP MONTH - On the Rotary International Calendar, August is Membership and New Club Development Month. This is an important time to ensure all members feel connected to the club and everyone is emerging from the Covid hibernation and looking around for others in the community to welcome to Rotary. Inviting someone to join Rotary is giving them a gift which will be treasured by them for years.
The Rotary International Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Vision Statement is:
Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.
Look around your community for diverse individuals who can enhance your club and invite them to a meeting.
CLUB VISITS - My wife and I have completed several official club visits, and this has been a real treat. Attached is a photo of Phil Hatch and me at the Saco Bay Rotary Club. Each club has its own personality, and each club has its own special way to make us feel welcome. Thanks to all so far.NEW AREA OF FOCUS – THE ENVIRONMENT
As you all know, the Rotary Foundation has added the environment to its areas of focus bringing the total to 7.
To celebrate the environment, I am inviting every club to organize an ocean, lake or river cleanup in your community on Sept 17, 18, 24, or 25. In 2019, the Portland Sunrise Club invited Wayfair to join them as part of Wayfair’s day of service, and this increased the number of hands doing the work. To get going please
- Select one of the dates
- Choose a local water body
- Contact your town to arrange pickup of the trash
- Invite another group to join you
- Enjoy the day of clean up, having fun while performing service.
Please send me your plans. We will be organizing ways to publicize this event, and already have a videographer who has agreed to shoot some videos, so we need to know when and where.
