BOCCE ANYONE?

On September 21st, the Rotary Club of Welland held its 5th Annual Bocce Social at Casa Dante. After missing a year due to COVID, this event was held with pandemic distancing in mind. Casa Dante was an excellent host again, providing their special pasta dinner to 49 eager Bocce enthusiasts.

Rotarians from three area clubs, the Rotary clubs of Grimsby, St. Catharines South, and Niagara Falls joined in the fun. We had several people not associated with Rotary or Rotarians attend for the first time! As a special treat, a 100th Anniversary cake was presented to the Rotary Club of Niagara Falls attendees.

The rain held off (mostly) and a round-robin Bocce ‘tournament’ took place involving 12 teams.

There was plenty of cheering and some amazing shots. Everyone had an enjoyable time, some meeting face-to-face for the first time in many months. After several games, it came down to two Welland Rotary teams in the playoff for the trophy. President Vic Kerschl, Farida Kerschl, and Debbie and Don Thorpe (Rock & Roll) won the final event. The Runner-ups were the Diamond Diggers Brad & Jillian Wood and Peter & Nancy Inman.

The Rotary Club of Welland thanks all who attended to meet in a social setting and to raise funds for local and international projects.
