Six Club 13 Rotarians attended the Rotary District 6040 one day Conference on Friday, October 26: Jan Armstrong, Sally Bibb, Sherri Hahn, David McCaughey, Linn Mills and Dallas Ziegenhorn. Linn assisted with Registration and David was responsible for Audio Visual. District Governor Julie McCoy presided over the program which included remarks from Rachel Wallis with the mission of Buckner International “to transform the lives of vulnerable children” and the Shoes for Orphan Souls program. Dr. Jay Craig, a warrior of the Comanche Nation, gave a humorous and pointed talk about Rotary membership. Immediate Past District Governor Allen Garner awarded Presidential Citations and David McCaughey accepted the award for Club 13. The results of the McCoy-Horner Food Fight were revealed with McCoy earning slightly more points than Horner. The real winners of the Food Fight are all the families receiving food in the KC metro area. Club 13 was noted as the Club within the District that collected the most pounds of food.

The Conference concluded with the annual Foundation Dinner with over 350 attendees. Sherri Hahn was the Foundation Dinner Chair, David McCaughey was in charge of Audio Visual, Sally Bibb was Aide to the keynote speaker Jean Hatfield, and Dick Retrum provided the printing and programs. District Governor Elect Marc Horner was slated to introduce special guests and Foundation alumni but was ill and unable to attend the dinner, therefore, District Governor Nominee Designate David McCaughey took Marc’s place at the podium.

With a great deal of humor,  Jean Hatfield t spoke about return on investment and the long term positive impact of the dollars invested in Ambassadorial Scholars.  As an Ambassadorial Scholar she studied deafness and educating the deaf.  She has taught deaf students in grades pre-school through 12th grade and in 12 schools and serves as Literacy Chair for her Rotary District.

Club 13 was a Global Sponsor of the dinner with 24 Club 13 Rotarians and guests attending: Jan Armstrong, Kara Bennett, Barbara & Larry Dolci, Sally Bibb, Leslie & Pete Gasser, Sherri Hahn & Steve Seck, Brad & Jane Kleindl, Ernesto Marquez, David McCaughey, Dick Retrum, Tom Davis, Peter & Lois Ho, Linn Mills, Jim & Molly Porter, Duane & Sandra Benton, Dallas & Donna Zeigenhorn.   It was an enjoyable and inspiring evening.
