Re-printed from the Kansas City Star - March 1, 2017.

Alex Petrovic, Jr., 68, of Prairie Village, KS, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2017, surrounded by his family. For Alex, family always came first. He cherished his wife Peggy and together they shared much of their time with their children and growing circle of grandchildren. Alex was born June 14, 1948, in Independence, MO, the second of six children, to Alex and Frances (Diesko) Petrovic.

Alex grew up in Sugar Creek and graduated from De La Salle High School in Kansas City. He received his BA in political science from Benedictine College in Atchison, KS. After college he went on to become a Certified Financial Planner. Alex had a long career as a financial advisor working for Waddell & Reed and BMA Financial Services. In 2002, Alex branched out on his own to form Petrovic Financial Services, an affiliate of Raymond James. In October 2015, he merged the operations of his firm with his son Alex III's firm, Petrovic Weaver Financial Services. He was a "Smart Money Expert" on- air panel member, participating regularly on KCUR's "Up-to- Date" financial segments.

He leaves his beloved wife, Peggy (Ferraro); his sons, Alex Michael Petrovic III (Dasha Skrypka) and John Daniel Petrovic (Kara Swink); his step- children, Sarah (Meeder) McNamara (Reed), Katherine (Meeder) Robinson (Mark) and Michael Meeder; his five siblings, Frances Padow, Teresa Petrovic, Christopher Petrovic, Mark Petrovic and Anastasia Rock. Also the grandchildren who became the stars in his sky: Aiden, Jackson, Harper, Benjamin, William and Charles.

After his wife and family, his passions were golf, the Royals, sharing lattes with friends and Bruce Springsteen. Alex possessed an easy charm; his piercing blue eyes and warm demeanor easily won him many dear friends. Alex was committed to his community. He was an active member of the Downtown Kansas City Rotary Club, including serving as the Chairman of the Investment Committee for the Club's Foundation. He was also a founding member and President of the Kansas City Plaza Rotary Club. For the past 29 years he could be found selling newspapers on the Royals' opening day to raise money for the Rotary Youth Camp.

Over the years Alex has served multiple charitable organizations in addition to Rotary; he was a regular volunteer at the Kansas City Catholic Worker House, a Volunteer of the Year for the Marillac Home for Children and Board President for the Bridge Home for Children, serving on its Board for 26 years. Alex died after a short illness of acute myeloid leukemia. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society or the Kansas City Rotary Club Foundation.
