LAST MEETING OF 2016- FRIDAY, DECEMBER 16.
We will be celebrating the season--please wear your favorite holiday attire!

East HS Interact Launches First Service Project

Members of the East High School Interact Club, sponsored by the Plaza Rotary Club, collected more than $150 worth of canned goods and other food items last week in their first large service project this year.  The club created a competition among the 5th hour classes at East to see which class could collect the most food.  The club, which has about 20 members, planned the food drive, made posters, and collected the food, which was donated to Della Lamb for its Christmas family food distribution on Wednesday.

Thanks to Steve Johnston and Erik Dickinson for hauling the food to Della Lamb on Monday, and to Aileen Murphy, Denise Holt and Karen Gridley for providing treats for the winning classrooms.

THANK YOU!  Club President, Drue Thomas, would like to extend a thank you to Bob Latz, Paul Temme, Aileen Murphy, Roger Samuel, Mike Theobald, Tom Bradshaw and his wife, and Karyn Eppler for volunteering at Harvesters last Saturday.  With the help of a large group of kids from Urban Rangers we assembled 1,008 Back Pack Snack Bags for kids to eat over the weekend.  It was a fun and productive two hours!

Club President, Drue Thomas, would like to thank all of the Plaza Rotarians that contributed money to the Gordon Parks Adopt A Family this year. Because of everyone's strong support we had more money than we were allowed to spend on our two families. With the extra funds we were able to adopt four additional children through Operation Breakthough. Your generosity will bring joy to 9 children and 2 adults in need this holiday season. Thank you!

RECOGNITION FROM HOPE HOUSE. At our Club Meeting last Friday Jennifer Nussbeck from the Hope House announced that the Plaza Rotary Club had been chosen as the 2017 Visionary of the Year!  We will be honored at their inaugural volunteer luncheon on February 16, 2017 at 11:00 AM at The Hilton President Hotel.  The Visionary of the Year recognition is bestowed upon a business or organization who has been an exemplary steward for inspiring a better community through fundraising, volunteerism, and engagement, while bringing awareness to the mission of Hope House.  Individual tickets for the event are $65.00 each and we will be starting a signup sheet to try and get a big group of us there for the award presentation.

Have you signed up for ROTARY DIRECT?

Top 5 reasons you should move your quarterly sustaining member donation to Rotary Direct:

5) You can earn credit card points while doing good!

4) Your Paul Harris recognition points will show up immediately after each scheduled donation vs. when your volunteer Treasurer is able to transfer funds to RI.

3) Easier to track charitable donations vs. club membership dues/meals.

2) You can help the club achieve the Presidential Citation (one criteria is Rotary Direct enrollment).

and drum roll please....

1) You will be making your volunteer Club Treasurer's life easier...really isn't that enough all on its own??
