November 6, 2014 OPENING: CHARITY BASKETS were passed by Randy Shatz. Visiting Rotarians: Bob Haigh announced that they were not any visiting Rotarians this week. GUESTS: Christine Harkins (2); John Howell (1) ANNOUNCEMENTS: Bobby DeGregorio – Kids Christmas Party December 9. 50 kids to buy presents for. Please see Bob to sign up. Tom Sanford – Turkey Trot – Need volunteers for both time blocks – 6 AM – 8:15 am and 7:30 AM – 9:45 AM for registration table, water station, clean up, traffic/crowd control. Get the word out! Registrations are coming in. Signup sheets are on the table. Shelter Box will be set up at the Turkey Trot. November 13. Foundation Dinner at Venus de Milo. Cocktail hour 5:30 PM; dinner 7:00 PM. Deb Raiche from Bridgemark thanked the Club for last year’s charity gift. Bob Ridgway – Rotary Moment. Record contributions to the Rotary Foundation. FUN FACTOID: Josie’s son was a Bumblebee Transformer for Halloween. HAPPY BUCKS was hosted by Bob DeGregorio and collecting was John Meara. Bobby DeGregorio – Apology buck to Joe Sinapi. Vanessa Zampini – Flying out tomorrow to see her uncle. Excited to be going out to warmer weather. Bob Haigh – Got his yellow raincoat. Coast Guard will find him if his wife throws him overboard. Leaving Saturday for vacation week in Hilton Head. Christine Harkins – Safety drills when sailing. Very happy with election turnout. Scott Seaback - Had to leave fundraiser early. Forgot to pick up his daughter from CCD! Carol Batty – Another game; another LaSalle win. Dennis Sleister – Granddaughter didn’t like the red mold in the pumpkin. Bobby D. – Worked for Board of Canvassers. Wasn’t happy with people who wrote in cartoon character names. Dan Scanlon, Jr. – Went to first parent’s weekend. 2,000 college students ran through Boston streets in their underwear!!! Carole Ritarossi – Went to New York for Rotary last weekend. Had a blast! SPEAKER: Mayor Scott Avedisian Update on airport – airport officials much easier to deal with. Main Avenue will change. Building the new fields now. Did helicopter tour of many parts of the city. Transatlantic flights in June to Germany with Condor Airlines. Another big announcement in June is possible. Apponaug Circulator – been like this for 40 plus years. Was designed to be temporary. Will be able to see Apponaug Cove again. Brand new 121 room Wyndham Hotel will be built in Apponaug. Central Chamber – capital campaign. Revitalizing entire area. City Center Warwick – former Leviton property. Open to different properties. 8,000 square foot medical facility – will require 19,000 hotel nights per year. Another big announcement regarding Jefferson Boulevard is expected this week. RI Mall - waiting for list of stores. Hope to start construction in January and be open one year from now. Tom Sanford - Turkey Trot – 2 weeks to go! Talk it up and get the word out. Will be fun! Registrations are coming in. Still need a few more volunteers. Janis Constantine – Calendars are in. Will start selling them next week. Each Rotarian is asked to sell 10 calendars. Make great gifts. Collecting for 10-10-10 ($500 must be paid by 12/31). Gourmet Gala – great ideas. Corporate Sponsorship available. Chief Terronova will be helping us again this year. Bob DeGregorio – Kids Holiday Party. Please see Bob if you are able to buy a gift for a child. Party will be on December 9th. Chris Sanford – 50/50 Raffle – Robin Lovely had the winning ticket, but did not pick the Queen of Hearts. BIRTHDAYS: Lorna Ricci – 11/3; Wally Mcleod – 11/4; Tom Sanford – 11/7 HAPPY BUCKS was hosted by Bob DeGregorio and collecting was Dan Scanlon, Jr. Janis Constantine – Happy buck to see Dan go for a walk. Kenney Quaranto – For the weather we’ve had but even better, for the weather that’s coming! Bill Palmisciano – Janis, fantastic job on the fundraising events. Carol Batty – LaSalle won and they beat Bishop Hendricken! John Howell – Invitation to the Clambake & Chowder Night on Tuesday at O’Rourke’s Tavern at 5:30 PM. Mike Hollands – Whole family just got back from hiking trip in Portugal. Oldest daughter Judy got engaged! Congrats!! Alan Wheelock (Speaker) – In Honor of two three-year-old grandsons who are among the handsomest and the smartest kids in the world. Lara D’Antuono – Undecided buck for Bobby’s bow tie.
