On Saturday, Dec 7, RB Sunrise Rotary will again partner with the PTA at the Valley Elementary School on Bowron Road in Poway to host a Craft and Gift Fair for low income children.

This partnership began in 2010 when President Al Watson decided that our club should do something to benefit children for the Christmas holiday. Sue Herndon was aware of the Craft Fair that the PTA at Valley Elementary School hosted on the first Saturday in December because her daughter taught at that school. Sue investigated whether the PTA would welcome our club's help in providing breakfast items and gifts that the children could choose to give to someone in their family.  Our club supplied the gifts and the wrapping paper for the children. Our club also helped to decorate the all purpose room at the school for the event.

That first event in 2010 was a success and RB Sunrise Rotary has made this an annual event ever since. Club members gather early in the morning to decorate and bring all of the supplies in before the children arrive.  Once the children and a parent arrive, there is breakfast food for the children and then the children work on crafts and choose a gift and take it to be wrapped.

This is a fun event for every member who can volunteer for a few hours. Many of these children would not have an opportunity to give a gift to anyone if our club didn't help host this event. This event is a way that Rotary can make a difference in our local community.
