Paul receiving award from Carl Kruse
On Friday Evening, June 22, 2018, at the club's Demotion Party, Paul Gorman was officially demoted from his position as president of RB Sunrise Rotary Club.  This event is the highlight of the Rotary year.  This is because it not only lets us gather as the family of Rotary, but also lets us have fun "roasting" our president while we celebrate the club's successes during the year.

This year's celebration used as its theme the fact that Paul was a helicopter pilot in the US Navy. The propeller topped ball caps perfectly highlighted this part of Paul's personal history.   He also flew fixed wing aircraft in the navy and as a civilian.
Jim Roth was his usual hilarious best in portraying President Paul during the skit. The video that ran during the dinner showed photos of Paul's life.

Traditionally there is a skit to "roast" our soon to be past President. This year's skit showcased Jim Roth at his hilarious best portraying a very short "Paul" and showing how Paul got ready for leading meetings during the year.

After the skit, PDG and RB Sunrise Past President Carl Kruse presented President Paul with special recognitions from the City of San Diego, The County of San Diego and from Brian Maienshein, the assembly representative to the state assembly from our district.  Among the recognitions was a clever parody written by Carl.

Paul then made an award to President Elect for 2019-2020 Bret Geernaert as 2017-18 RB Sunrise Rotarian of the Year. President Paul then had all of the board of directors come forward.  After thanking them, he present each of them with a Rotary logo fine ballpoint pen.  Incoming 2018-2019 RB Sunrise Rotary President then thanked each of the board members for their service and thanked them for agreeing to continue to service as his board of directors.  PDF Carl then ceremonially inducted the incoming board of directors.

Nothing I could write here could adequately convey the upbeat mood and genuine fun of this annual event. Congratulations to the members of the planning committee whose efforts contributed to the success of yet another RB Sunrise Demotion Party.  We are a club that accomplishes a lot and also knows how to have fun when we gather as a Rotary family.
