Coming up in Friday’s meeting, you can look forward to learning what the Oakland Zoo is doing for animals, and in the community. Our speaker will be Dr. Joel Parrott, the Zoo’s Executive Director, and a member of Oakland 3 Rotary Club.

You all know the Oakland Zoo at Knowland Park….but when was the last time you visited the amazing facility?  Come hear history, stories and an update on what the Zoo does, directly from its Executive Director.

Here’s a bit more about our guest speaker on Friday. Don’t miss it!

Born in the wild Adirondack region of New York State, Dr. Parrott spent his high school years in Miami, Florida before moving to Colorado where he earned bachelor of science and doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) degrees at Colorado State University, Fort Collins.

After an internship at the Denver Zoo, Dr. Parrott moved to northern Calfornia and a private practice specializing in exotic animals in Castro Valley. He was appointed executive director of the Oakland Zoo in 1984.

An avid conservationist and naturalist, Dr. Parrott views the role of zoos as instrumental to environmental education.
