Dr. Tim Harris, representing Newman Regional Health along with Paul Quin and Emily Dieker, told our club about the many uses of hyperbaric oxygen treatment. It is especially useful with wound care, and aids in healing with intensively introducing oxygen to inflamed tissues. This treatment is one piece of wound care that is missing here in Emporia, and would be an asset to our hospital in partnership with vascular disease and the cardiology clinic. Patients with vascular disease, bone infections, radiation burns, and diabetic foot ulcers would find this treatment useful. Some people would be in danger of losing a limb without this type of facility. Fund raising is underway through the NRH Foundation through 2016 and into 2017. It is hoped that $400,000 could be raised in order to acquire the equipment by the fourth quarter of 2017.
