During the July 26, 2019 meeting, President Mark Rojek welcomed the 50 members and 15 guests in attendance.
 
Rotarian Jim Molnar gave the Invocation.
 
Congratulations to Past President Rick Huetter for having the winning 50/50 ticket worth $42.00!
 
Assistant Secretary Paula Mastroianni introduced the guests.
 
The "Happy News" was provided by the following: 
 
  • Bruce Schorsten - happy to welcome the Queen and her Ambassadors, happy for the great weather we are having, and that Canton will be shining brightly during the Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival.

  • PDG/PP Bob Pattison - happy the balloons at the HOF Festival Balloon Classic were able to fly that morning because of the beautiful weather! He hopes we will have another year when all balloons will be able to fly when scheduled;
  •  
  • Mark Clendenin - happy that the final Unevent Raffle drawing was that day. He loved the challenge, but was very happy it was DONE;
  •  
  • Tim Franta - he was happy to announce he has 10 game tickets for sale for the Pro Football Hall of Fame game on Thursday. If anyone is interested in purchasing, please contact him. He also donated two tickets to the Club to auction off to the highest bidder, with the proceeds going to the Canton Charitable Fund; (*the winning bidder was Bruce Schorsten with a bid of $110.00).

  • Joy Dugan - happy to be there along with Joan Ortman to present the Purple Bag Project. Both ladies are Plain Township Rotarians;
 
Past President Rick Taylor asked for members' support of the upcoming Rotary Oktoberfest being held on Thursday, September 19, 2019. Tickets are available as well as sponsorship opportunities. Many volunteers are also going to be needed the day of the event. Please consider supporting the Rotary Club of Canton's largest fundraiser of the year!
 
 
PP Rick then reminded everyone of the upcoming Plain Township Golf outing taking place on Friday, August 16th. Please see him if you are interested in golfing. Cost is $80 for golf, lunch, and fun. Deadline for registration and payment is August 7th. *Flyers were available on each table with additional information pertaining to the event.
 
 
Vice President Mark Clendenin concluded the Unevent Raffle drawing with the last two prizes and the $500 cash Grand Prize. The first drawing was Art Lover's Basket, with custom metal artwork from Canton Rotarian Ron Haines' Magical Metals, a $20 gift certificate to That Little Italian Kitchen, and 2 tickets to any upcoming Canton Symphony concert from PP Michelle Mullaly. The winner was Tom Soehlen (ticket sold by Tom Clevenger). The second raffle prize was a Wine Lover's gift basket donated by Giant Eagle Market District in Green. The basket had 5 bottles of wine, 4 tickets to a wine tasting event at Giant Eagle Market District in Green, $50 wine gift certificate, an assortment of chocolate and 2 wine glasses. The winner of this prize was Sara Johnson (ticket sold by Bill Maddox).  After placing the winners' tickets back into the tumbler (ALL tickets are eligible for the Grand Prize), the winner of the $500 cash prize was Canton Rotarian Jeff Scott! Congratulations to all of our winners, and thank you to everyone who purchased and sold tickets, donated prizes, and otherwise supported this fundraising event!
 
President Mark introduced two Rotarians from Plain Township, Joy Dougan and Joan Ortman, who presented information on the "Purple Bag Project". This project helps support local domestic violence shelters in caring for survivors. Joy and Joan are asking other local Rotary Clubs to get behind this project, in order to increase the impact. Please see the article above for more information on the Purple Bag Project and how it works. 
 
President Mark then introduced the speakers for the meeting, General Chairman of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival, Doug Froelich, along with General Vice Chair, Todd Stover. The speakers gave a presentation about the upcoming events for this year's Festival, as well as a history of how the Hall of Fame and the Enshrinement Festival developed over the years. At the conclusion of the meeting the Festival Queen and her Royal Ambassadors were introduced.

  • mark your calendar for the upcoming Akron Rubberducks game on August 15th, when President Mark will throw out the first pitch;
  • Canton Rotary Oktoberfest event is scheduled for Thursday, September 19th
