Our speaker this Friday will be Max Barton, executive director of the Canton Museum of Art. Max was appointed director in 2014, and has since engendered a rebirth and generated new energy at this cultural 
gem in our city, which showcases exciting exhibitions of American art from around the country and our Northeast Ohio region. The Museum also provides art education programs in our schools, offers numerous art classes for all ages, and presents a wide range of special events and programs that connect art to life in our community.Max served as CMA’s associate director from 2012 to 2014. Prior to that, Max was director of corporate communications and investor relations for Myers Industries in Akron, advancing through several leadership positions over 18 years with the company.
From 1991 to 1993, Max was marketing coordinator for the College of Fine & Applied Arts at The University Akron. He began his career in the arts in 1988 as marketing specialist for outreach programs at the Kentucky Center for the Arts in Louisville, Kentucky, coordinating statewide and national programs for performing arts and visual arts education.
Max earned a Masters degree in Arts Administration with a concentration in finance and marketing from The University of Akron, and he holds a BA in Political Science, Theology, and Art History from Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky. Max and his wife, Nancy, currently reside in Uniontown. In their “spare time,” they are active owners in the thoroughbred racing and aftercare industry in Kentucky.
