At our Zoom meeting on May 14, 2021, President Drew Pelger welcomed a total of 27 Canton Rotarians (live at John's Bar and also via Zoom), as well as our guest speakers, Todd Stover and Dennis Manzella, and guest of the club, Michael Milbrandt.

Interesting historical facts for the day:
  • 1787 – Delegates gathered for the first time to begin drafting the US Constitution in Philadelphia.
  • 1804 –  Famed explorers, Lewis and Clark, set out from St. Louis to explore the Northwest.
  • 1973 – US Supreme Court grants equal rights to females in the military.
  • 1986 – The Netherlands Institute for War Documentation published Anne Frank’s complete diary for the first time.
  • 1973 – America’s first space station, Skylab, was launched.
  • 1998 – Seinfeld’s final 2-part episode, “The Finale” aired on NBC to 76.3 million viewers. Commercials during the show were priced at $2 million for a 30 second spot.
  • 1998 – Frank Sinatra died.
 
 
Bizarre Facts:
Today is Dance Like a Chicken Day! Based on the Chicken Dance song  that originated in Switzerland in the 1950s, it wasn't until the 1970s that Americans caught on and the song took off on the charts. Rotarians were encouraged to get their chicken on today!

Announcements:
President Drew announced that this year's golf outing will be held at The Sanctuary Golf Course on June 18, 2021 and more details regarding this event will be forthcoming.  President Drew also thanked Sue Marzano for the wonderful job she has been doing with the new member orientation.
 
Paul Hervey announced that next year there will be a $5.00 charge for any cell phone calls that interrupt the weekly Rotary meeting.
