Last Week’s Meeting. Dan Haifley the Executive Director of the O’Neil Sea Odyssey was last week’s speaker. The O’Neil Sea Odyssey is a non-profit organization founded by wet suit innovator Jack O’Neil. The Sea Odyssey organization is dedicated to the education and discovery of the marine habitat and the relationship between the living sea and the environment. The program is structure for youth in the 4th-6th grade who attend free but must earn their way by designing and performing a project to benefit their community. The program is carried out on a 65 ft catamaran sailing on Monterey Bay. Dan pointed out several statistics that this classroom setting enhances learning and retention by the students. Over 80,000 students have attended the program since it started. To learn more about the O’Neil Sea Odyssey go to www.oneillseaodyssey.org.

Rotary International Conference. Andy Ratermann returned after attending Rotary’s International Conference in San Palo, Brazil. He said he felt like he attended two conferences as he spent the second week in Rio along with 18,000 other Rotarians. Was it worthwhile for the soon to be President? Yes says Andy.

Polio Plus. If you have not done so already don’t forget to submit your Polio Plus pledge either by writing a check to Rotary International of by going on-line at Rotary.org. If you do it by check please give it to Ted Morehead or Miles Barber. Remember, your contribution counts toward your Paul Harris and also counts toward the Clubs 2014-2015 giving goals.

Newest Club Member. Tracy Wingrove was inducted as the Club’s newest member. Tracy is the Executive Director of the Santa Clara Library Foundation and is sponsored by Maria Daane who previously held that position. Tracy has a history of community service, is married to husband Jim and they have a daughter who will be a senior at Fremont High School and a son who will be a freshman at Fremont High School. Welcome to the Club Tracy.

With Tracy’s induction, twelve outstanding members have joined the Club over this Rotary year. Quite a class!

This Weeks Meeting. Well it is just around the corner, the fourth annual Silicon Valley BBQ Championships kicks off this Friday and ends on Saturday. The effort and planning that has gone into this signature event will make it the best ever. Hats off to the BBQ committee and all of those who have helped plan and organize this event. This week’s meeting will be about the BBQ and will be held at Central Park. If at all possible wear some work type clothes as set up will still be in progress and help is needed.

Oh, One More Thing. Bring a bag of lemons to the meeting on Thursday for the homemade lemonade booth.

See you on Thursday.
