Weekly Club News Update!

1/28/2015

We were all pleasantly surprised at last week’s meeting to see the return of Mike Moul after being out for more than four months. Mike you look great and we are so glad to have you back.

Chris Cavanaugh, last week’s speaker, is a former Olympic swimmer having won Gold Medals in the 1984 Summer Olympics. Chris shared his story of what it took for him to achieve at the highest level in his sport and what he learned along the way. Supportive parents, athletic abilities, competitive spirit, and a lot of self motivation all contributed. An occasional defeat didn’t hurt either. Lessons learned from his Olympic journey are applicable to many facets of life and Chris has utilized those skills to help others achieve their goals.

Chris regularly speaks before charitable organization and participates in many charitable swimming events. He brought with him his Gold Metals and shared them and other artifacts with the Club.

The Rotary Foundation (TRF) giving continues with Jan. 31, 2015 being the deadline for counting contributions that are returned to the Club for their use in the 2015-2016 Rotary year. To date our Club is under our goal of 100% participation with only 35% of the members making a contribution and total contributions at only 77% of goal. If you haven’t yet contributed please consider doing so before the end of the month. As the "Greatest Rotary Club In the World", we can do better. You will still have a chance to contribute after the end of the month as our Polio Drive will start soon.

ELC is really heating up. RTA training and student selections have taken place and RTA’s will soon be contacting their Teams. Be sure and speak with Phil Dolan or Colleen Noll to see where you can help.

This week’s speaker comes to us via our own Ann Watts. Andrew Bales, President of Symphony Silicon Valley, will be talking about the Symphony’s plans, events and status. About time we had a little culture in the Club.

See you all on Thursday.
