Creating a Legacy of Value

Jake Carlson is a family guy with a passion for helping parents create the lives of their dreams without sacrificing the people they love. He is the founder of FamilyBeforeFortune.com, an online media publisher and host of the popular podcast Family Before Fortune.

Jake’s career in the nonprofit sector began in 2005 when, as a newly admitted member of the State Bar of Arizona, he joined the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) as Associate Regional Director/Endowment Counsel. His current role is Deputy Scout Executive/COO for the Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America where he oversees all fundraising, including operating, capital and endowment and provides leadership to the council’s properties and camping programs.

Jake earned his law degree (JD) from California Western School of Law concurrently with a business degree (MBA) from San Diego State University. He received the “2005 Outstanding Case Award” for his thesis project with San Diego State University’s Athletic Department. He holds an undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University.

Jake is an adventure junkie and loves to try out new and exciting things. He has climbed volcanoes in the Philippines, spent an entire summer backpacking through 11 National Parks, skydove (is that a word?), rock climbed on two continents and scuba dove with sharks. He has a few adventures in the planning stages including kiteboarding and base jumping but is still working on the spousal permit.

Jake is an Eagle Scout and an avid hockey player and fan.

Jake and his wife, Kari, have two daughters and a son and reside in San Jose, CA.
