Rebecca Lara Joined the Texas Army National Guard 14 December 2001 as a Nuclear Biological Chemical warfare specialist, she waited until she turned 18 years old then on her own begin the process of enlisting into the military.  During her high school years she served in the Junior Air Force ROTC all four years.   Her senior year she was elected by her peers to be the Junior Air Force ROTC Core Commander.  Mr and Mrs Joaquin Lara Sr  always’ s knew their oldest and only daughter would have something to do with the military but did not have a clue she would make the decision so fast.  Now, 13 years later PFC Lara is now SSG Lara.  Rebecca has served two tours both to Iraq, Camp Speicher 2005-2007 and Camp Taji and then Baghdad 2009-2010.  By August 2015 she will be boots on ground again deployed overseas to Kuwait for a Signal Communications mission.    Over her career she has spent most of her time on active duty in the guard in her units as a training NCO, Admin NCO, TICP NCOIC, and JISCC NCOIC.  She is a chemical soldier but has always been in a signal unit helping out her fellow brother and sisters with their IT skills.  SSG Lara is presently working for Shell Oil and Gas Corporation as a Network Analyst.  SSG Lara also was just recently earned the position among all of her duties as a CRBRN NCOIC and squad leader; she is now a Platoon Seargent over 1st Platoon.
