Sheroo Mukhtiar is our Chief Executive Officer. With over 28 years of experience in non-profit management, Sheroo offers a wealth of knowledge, skills, and experience in managing and operating nonprofits, including program implementation, strategic planning, fundraising, and board development.

Sheroo has operated as Executive Director for 5 different organizations, across the United States, before coming to SER. Her personal and professional journey has allowed her to experience firsthand some of the ‘barriers’ to education and employment.“ My transition to the United States, almost 30 years ago, began with limited resources. As an ‘international’ student I had to learn basic survival skills while also preparing myself for employment in a competitive environment. It 

was incredibly challenging, but thanks to the support of friends and mentors, who guided my efforts, inspired, and motivated me to be all that I could be, I was able to make it. Knowing that we can do the same and more for the individuals we serve at SER, is very gratifying, to say the least.”

Most importantly Sheroo values respect and innovation in the workplace.  She believes that respect is at the core of every choice she makes. She also believes in growth and personal development.  For that to happen, Sheroo says, “we must be open to innovation, failure, and ongoing change.”

Sheroo earned a Master of Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and a Bachelor of Social Work from Nirmala Niketan in Bombay, India. She completed Leadership Houston, Class 34 and the American Leadership Forum, Class 48 among other leadership programs.

Outside of work, Sheroo’s life revolves around her two daughters and their numerous pets, they also love to travel and experience different cultures and cuisines.
