Inspiration: April Bignell gave an inspiration honoring those who fought for the right of all Americans to vote.  She talked about those who risked and in some cases lost their lives in the struggle for voting rights in 1960s.  Their efforts resulted in the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965.  She also quoted Barbara Boxer on the power that the vote gives to ordinary citizens.

President’s Club:
Stuart Rosenberg joined to commemorate the recent 50th wedding anniversary of members Gary and Susan Latshaw on behalf of their friends Nancy and Marty Newman.

 
Doug Carothers joined to celebrate coming back to the club meetings after an absence due to his wife’s illness and downsizing from a house they lived in for many years.

President Judy spoke about the Live Oak Western Night II Fundraiser on Saturday, October 1, 5:30-8pm, St. Jude’s Episcopal Church.  The cost is $50 per person - funds will be raised to support the Live Oak Center.  To attend, RSVP to 408-971-9363.

Program:
Phil Johnson moderated a forum of candidates for the November election for two seats on the Cupertino City Council.  Candidates participating in the forum were: Parth Bharwad, David Fung, Jerry Liu, Rod Sinks, Val Vitols, and Kris Wang.  Cupertino City Channel televised the forum and it is available on the City Channel by clicking here.
